Kippers' Melee

I have Kippers' Melee on the brain. It is almost all I think about now with the event coming up so quick.

In Canada, at least on the West Coast, there are not very many annually scheduled tournaments/conventions. When you talk to people from the UK it seems that their whole lives are scheduled around jumping from one tournament to another and there always seems to be another event in the works before the first one is even done being advertised. For a lot of years we had 'Ard Boyz and whatever other events GW was involved in, but with the growth of Warhammer in the Greater Vancouver area some of the Clubs and some individuals and businesses started recognizing that there needed to be more events to grow the Warhammer community.

Wet Coast GT (formerly WCP GT) has been occurring for a decade, the Foodhammer circuit has been going on for about 3 years and Gottacon is going onto its 6th year but there's not much else unless you want to travel. In 2012 I added Kippers' Melee and suddenly in 2013 we're starting to see more events happening as well (I hear TSHFT is coming in as well).

My focus is Kippers' Melee (below is an exert from the website):

The first annual Kippers’ Melee was held in November 2012 at the Ramada Inn on Rosehill in Nanaimo, BC and sold out with 18 players coming from various parts of Vancouver Island and BC.
We called it Kippers’ Melee based on the definition of a Kipper. Not the Fish, but the Medieval definition. A Kipper is basically a person employed by a knight who does not fight on horseback who collects the spoils of war on behalf of a knight who has beaten his advisary in combat, particularly at tournaments. What is a Warhammer tournament if not a present day interpretation of that Medieval tradition of tournaments and warfare.

The 2013 event has given me a great respect for the tournament organizers of conventions and events world wide--I'm working on an article that I will post once it is just right expressing the depths of that respect--as our little 18 man Fantasy event has grown to include events for Fantasy, 40K, Warmachine, X-Wing, Malifaux and Magic the Gathering. This year is a trial year in my opinion, what happens with attendance will determine what events are done next year.

We're nearly there. October 25-27, 2013 is coming up really fast. Have you got your ticket yet?
